The short version

This site runs no analytics, sets no tracking cookies, embeds nothing from third parties and shows no advertising. There is no tracking to opt out of. The only personal data I hold is an email address, and only if you gave me one — by subscribing to The Monthly or by requesting the quarterly report. You can have it deleted at any time by replying to any email or writing to the address below.

Everything below is the detailed version, required under Articles 13 and 14 of the GDPR.

Who is responsible

Daniel Benedikt Zemitzsch
Wisentring 12
24848 Kropp, Germany
hello@marketplace-economics.com

I am the controller for the processing described here. Full contact details are on the imprint page.

When you read the site

Every request to a website leaves technical traces at the server. My hosting provider records the requesting IP address, the date and time, the page requested, the referring page, and the browser and operating system reported by your device.

  • Purpose: delivering the site, keeping it secure and available, and detecting abuse such as automated mass requests.
  • Legal basis: Article 6(1)(f) GDPR. My legitimate interest is operating the site securely and reliably.
  • Retention: these logs are kept short-term by the hosting provider and deleted automatically. They are not combined with anything else and not used to build a profile.
  • Processor: Lovable Labs Incorporated, 1 Lincoln St, Boston, MA 02111, United States, which hosts and delivers this site. A data processing agreement under Article 28 GDPR is in place, including the European Commission's standard contractual clauses. Lovable's data protection officer can be reached at dpo@lovable.dev. The current list of sub-processors is published at lovable.dev/subprocessors.

Two cookies are set, both technically necessary and neither requiring consent: __cf_bm, placed by the content delivery network in front of the site to filter automated abuse (30 minutes), and __dpl, which pins a page load to a single deployment so that all its files match (about 24 hours). Neither identifies you and neither is used for measurement.

The form endpoints additionally apply a rate limit per IP address to prevent abuse. The address is used for that check and not stored beyond it.

The Monthly

If you subscribe, I process the email address you enter and the page you subscribed from.

  • Purpose: sending The Monthly, roughly once a month, and the quarterly report when a new edition is published.
  • Legal basis: Article 6(1)(a) GDPR — your consent.
  • Double opt-in: after you enter your address you receive one email with a confirmation link. Nothing is sent until you click it. If you do not confirm, the address is deleted. The time of your subscription and of your confirmation is logged so that consent can be demonstrated.
  • Retention: until you unsubscribe. Every issue carries an unsubscribe link, and a reply to any issue works too. After unsubscribing the address is deleted; only a minimal record of the unsubscribe is kept so you are not accidentally re-added.
  • Processor: Brevo (Sendinblue SAS), 106 boulevard Haussmann, 75008 Paris, France. Data is processed in the EU. A data processing agreement under Article 28 GDPR is in place. Brevo's own privacy information is at brevo.com.
  • No tracking pixels. I do not measure opens or clicks. I do not know whether you read an issue.

Requesting the quarterly report

If you request the quarterly report, I process the email address you enter and which edition you asked for.

  • Purpose: sending you the report, and adding you to The Monthly if you agreed to that in the same step.
  • Legal basis: Article 6(1)(a) GDPR — your consent, given by ticking the box on the form. Providing the address is voluntary; without it I cannot send the report, which is the only consequence.
  • Retention and processor: as for The Monthly above.

Writing to me

If you email me, I process your address, your message and anything you choose to include.

  • Purpose: answering you.
  • Legal basis: Article 6(1)(f) GDPR, and Article 6(1)(b) where your message concerns a contract or its preparation.
  • Retention: as long as needed to deal with the matter, then deleted, unless a statutory retention period applies.

What is stored in your browser

One entry is written to your browser's session storage: tsr-scroll-restoration-v1_3, which remembers your scroll position so that going back to a page returns you to where you were. It contains no identifier and disappears when you close the tab.

Nothing is written to local storage, and no database is created in your browser.

What this site does not do

  • No analytics of any kind, and no measurement of your behaviour.
  • No cookies beyond what is technically required to deliver a page. Nothing is set for tracking, so there is no cookie banner because there is nothing to consent to.
  • No embedded fonts, maps, videos or social widgets loaded from third parties. Fonts are served from this domain.
  • No advertising, no ad networks, no data sold or shared for marketing.
  • No profiling and no automated decision-making within the meaning of Article 22 GDPR.

Transfers outside the EU

Email is processed inside the European Union by Brevo. Site delivery is provided by Lovable Labs Incorporated, a company established in the United States. Because the provider is established in a third country, the transfer rests on the European Commission's standard contractual clauses (Commission Decision 2021/914, Module Two, controller to processor), which form part of the data processing agreement referred to above. No other transfer takes place.

Your rights

Under the GDPR you have the right to:

  • access the data I hold about you (Article 15),
  • rectification of inaccurate data (Article 16),
  • erasure (Article 17),
  • restriction of processing (Article 18),
  • data portability (Article 20),
  • object to processing based on legitimate interest (Article 21),
  • withdraw consent at any time, with effect for the future (Article 7(3)) — for the newsletter, the unsubscribe link is enough.

Write to hello@marketplace-economics.com. I will answer without undue delay and in any case within one month.

You also have the right to complain to a supervisory authority. Mine is:

Changes

If the way this site handles data changes, this page changes with it, and the date at the top changes too. Substantial changes affecting subscribers will be mentioned in The Monthly.
